Can H2 (hydrogen) numbers increase on a breath test after mBIOTA Elemental?Updated 25 days ago

In some cases of patients with Intestinal Methanogen Overgrowth (IMO), an increase in H2 (hydrogen) was observed on breath tests after using mBIOTA Elemental. The archaea present in the GI system in cases of IMO use hydrogen to produce methane. When the methane producing archaea become deceased from the use of mBIOTA Elemental, the hydrogen is not consumed for methane production and then shows as an increase on the breath test. This phenomenon was observed in our 2023 clinical trial in a few patients. Hydrogen numbers then improved as these patients started their regular diet. In this instance, it could also be an option to continue the elemental diet for a 3rd week, however this decision would be at the discretion of the health care provider overseeing the patient's use of the elemental diet.
