The elemental diet is not a standard treatment for Celiac disease, as the primary management for Celiac remains a strict gluten-free diet. However, some studies suggest that the elemental diet may have a potential role in specific cases. Research has shown that individuals with dermatitis herpetiformis, a skin manifestation of Celiac disease, experienced symptomatic improvement on an elemental diet. Additionally, in cases of refractory Celiac disease (Type 1), where patients do not respond to a gluten-free diet alone, the elemental diet has demonstrated both clinical and histologic improvement in some studies.
